10 Spoons 10 Days
Artist Statement
10 years after creating my body of work titled 10 vessels 10 days I have wanted to revisit this fast-paced yet rhythmic approach to making, setting aside 10 days to create from start to finish 10 highly individual sculptural spoons. This time around, these 10 days have been split up over weeks instead of consecutively. This variation speaks to the many changes the last 10 years has brought including moving interstate, building a workshop, becoming a mother. All in all, many big shake ups to life. Just as I did with 10 vessels 10 days, I see each spoon as a three-dimensional sketch. A work in progress developing in my hands as I make it. Adding to, changing, developing as I go. Starting somewhere and ending up somewhere else. More often than not, landing in an unexpected place. There is something captivating in this unexpected magic. One day sparks ideas for the next, and so it flows, a familiar rhythm at the bench, my hands know what to do.
